Who thinks this guy is vastly overrated? I like The Terminator and Aliens, but most everything he's made after that has been just above Michael Bay quality. He also is overly obsessed with CGI.

I can see how people think he's overrated, but I still think he's way above Michael Bay's level. Bay's films are completely soulless. Cameron's films may be lacking in subtlety, but at least they have heart.

I'll agree with Arran here, although it seems to me he hasn't even directed that many films. Terminator, Aliens, Abyss, and T2, then Titanic, then seemingly nothing but documentaries about more sunken ships and digging up Jesus's carcass. I will admit I think he is a talented film craftsman, Aliens being my favorite of his, but as blockbuster directors go I think Speilberg has more talent in his pinky.

I hate when people overate CGI. I still love stopmotion. Like The lost world (1925)

He's overrated.
Revoltingly overrated.

The man wouldn't make any of my lists of The Best Directors of the 20th Century, I'll tell you that.

Still, like Spielberg, he's got an eye for the science of film.
Although not the heart.
