I didn't know what to think of this movie after seeing.

Part of me felt like eating a grilled cheese while the other half wanted to throw up.

Opinions?

Not sure what you mean, it wasn't a wide release but it's out on DVD now.

I would reccomend this movie only to hard-core fans of Terry Gilliam (ie, you love all his other stuff, with the possible exception of The Brothers Grimm which was ass) and you've got a tough stomach for disturbing shit. This movie is really disturbing, really fucked up, and made all the moreso because of a child's involvement in them. I dug it, but it really does push the boundaries of good taste and what you end up with is something like a beatiful, spiritual piece of roadkill.

I heard Gilliam disliked the American cut of the dvd..or something. here's an article about it: http://www.smart.co.uk/dreams/tidecrop.htm

It wasn't the cut of the DVD, it was the aspect ratio - the movie was shown in theaters in a 2.35:1 ratio (meaning the width of the frame was 2.35 times wider than the height - a wide wide screen, like Lord of the Rings/Lawrence of Arabia) and the DVD was cropped to a 1.85:1.

I liked it a lot! Really fucked up, takes you way out of your comfort zone, etc. The interesting thing about it, though, is that while it PUSHES the line, it never quite CROSSES it in that the little girl is never hurt and raped or anything, she just has some really weird, very traumatic experiences and will probably need therapy for the rest of her life.

I think Tideland and Pan's Labyrinth would be cool watched back to back as both deal with little girls using fantasy worlds to cope with their traumatic surroundings.
